The changes to benefits that were announced at the Budget will be disastrous for lone parents, disabled people and carers. Cuts to tax credits and to Housing Benefit will force people into debt and ever increasing hardship. The increasing numbers of disabled people denied Employment and Support Allowance will find that Jobseeker’s Allowance is not only a lower value benefit, but it becomes worth less in real terms each year. The tougher test for Disability Living Allowance will hit disabled people directly and carers indirectly.
