RADAR

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

I’ve read the statement by Carers Watch and would want to support it both personally and professionally – very well drafted.

Three key areas to add from RADAR – we’re insistent that there should be one
assessment for all benefits and support – not a ridiculous plethora of upsetting and financially wasteful tests; DLA is in no way connected to employment as has been suggested by both the Chancellor and a number of MPs; we welcome the acceptance of our campaigning on housing benefit and the additional bedroom for a paid carer.

Good luck with your campaign and please do keep in touch.

Regards,

We are in full support of your campaign and believe what the coalition is doing is disgraceful. It seems anything can be redefined to order whether it’s economics, poverty or disability.  Next they will tell us the earth is flat !

The National Autistic Society

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

The National Autistic Society know that for many people with a disability,
Disability Living Allowance (DLA) is an absolute lifeline. We therefore have
substantive concerns about the proposed use of a medical assessment for DLA. We know that many people with autism currently encounter huge problems with the medical assessment for out of work support. They tell us it is a routine exercise in ticking boxes which neither takes account of their difficulties nor reflects the level of help they need. We want to work with the new Government to ensure this doesn’t happen to DLA.

Government policy on disability and DLA assessment is beginning to look like a first world war tribunal committed to sending the badly wounded back into the front line at any cost. No matter about physical or sensory impairment or mental health problem, just get them off benefits and into jobs that don’t exist.

Dear Carer Watch,

Thank you for sending me this.  I will be speaking at a TUC meeting on the Budget’s impact on women and children and will make this point there.
Best wishes

Thank you for your email. What I want to do, though it could take a
week or more, is to send you an extremely detailed argument around
the attack on DLA to encourage debate. I’m acknowledging in advance
that my arguments might not find favour with some of your supporters
due to my ‘radical’ views on disability, but as the coalition
demonstrates, working for a common objective doesn’t mean sharing the
same ‘worldview’. I’m also going to prepare a brief statement as well.
