The National Pensioners Convention has launched a new campaign entitled, Care Free, in response to the Government’s decision to stage a 6 month consultation exercise on the future of care and services provided to older people. This campaign will make a detailed submission to the Government, based on the views and concerns of older people around the country.
Campaign Statement
The provision of social care to older and disabled people is an essential part of the welfare state and crucial to enabling continued independence in later life.
The Care Free campaign believes the social care system should:
Reject the use of means-testing and be properly funded by central government to provide free services to all without the use of rationing criteria
Recognise that the use of personal budgets are not universally suitable or the best way of providing the right type of care for all users
End the postcode lottery in provision and replace it with national standards of access and quality of services
Value and support, both in financial and practical terms, the families and carers of users
Recognise the need for properly trained, supervised and paid staff to assess, enable and care for users
Offer appropriate care to Britain’s diverse pensioner population
